DISD Schoolchildren Come Together to Promote Peace in Community
DALLAS–More than 1,000 students at L. L. Hotchkiss Elementary will meet in front of the school at 2 p.m. Friday, September 21, to build a peace chain, symbolizing the schoolchildren's commitment to help make the world a better place.
For the event, called Patriotic Salute Friday, students have written essays on how they can make their home, school and community a more peaceful place. The Choraliers, a school singing group, will be recognized for their recent fund-raiser for the victims of last week's tragedy in Washington D.C., New York and Pennsylvania. The group raised $500 which will be donated to the Red Cross Relief Fund.
The event will end with students coming together and singing patriotic songs to show a spirit of community and support for America and its resilience. The school is located at 6929 Town North Drive (Mapsco 27W).
