Qualified Applicants Will Be Considered for Scholarships To Military Academies
DALLAS—High school students who are enrolled in the Dallas Independent School District are invited to the 9th Annual Dallas Academy Day where they can learn about the educational opportunities that await those who enroll in the nation's service academies. Academy Day activities are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, October 6, in the DISD School Administration Building, 3700 Ross Avenue.
Activities will include a seminar to inform high school students about the standards, obligations and requirements to qualify for a nomination to the academies. Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson will address the students as well as representatives from the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army , U.S. Navy , U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Merchant Marines.
Students selected for an appointment receive a full scholarship and graduate as second lieutenants from the academy. To qualify, students must be U.S. citizens between the ages of 17 and 23 who are residents of the 30th Congressional District and who meet the appropriate academic and physical requirements. The education received through an appointment to one of the service academies is estimated to be worth more than $250,000.
