Superintendent Has Active Public Schedule For Thursday
DALLAS—DISD Superintendent Mike Moses has an active public schedule Thursday, including a 10:30 a.m. keynote address on the importance of character education in public schools, a board of trustees briefing on the costs for new construction and renovations to the district's school buildings, and the October board of trustees meeting.
The superintendent is scheduled to speak at 10:30 a.m. during the 2001 Texas Character Counts Summit meeting at the American Airlines Victory Center. He has prepared an extensive speech about the importance of character education in Dallas schools.
The speech marks the last public appearance Moses will make before attending a 5 p.m. briefing with the board of trustees to present the findings of a facilities needs assessment of the district's school buildings.
During tonight's meeting, the superintendent will present the board with a dollar figure for what would be required to renovate and make additions to all existing schools. Last week, the board was presented with an estimate of $933 million just to make maintenance repairs to the district's schools.
Tonight, Moses also will include a dollar figure for the costs that would be associated with building new schools, greatly reducing the number of more than 1,900 portable classrooms presently used by the district to house more than 40,000 students.
The briefing of trustees, and the 6 p.m. board meeting, are scheduled to take place in the auditorium of DISD Administration Building located at 3700 Ross Avenue.
