DISD To Launch New Communications Program Thursday at Carter High School
DALLAS—Superintendent Mike Moses, the district's trustees, and the students and faculty of Carter High School will hold a Better Schools, Better Dallas! rally Thursday, Nov. 29, to launch a new communications program describing the district's impact on the city of Dallas.
The rally is slated to begin at 10:30 a.m. in the school's auditorium which is located at 1819 West Wheatland in south Dallas.
"Our message is simple to understand, if we have schools that are the among best, the rewards to the city of Dallas will be great, and that's what we mean when we say, 'Better Schools, Better Dallas!'" Moses said.
During the rally, student council president Chrissharr Willis, Carter Principal Leslie Williams, and Dr. Moses are scheduled to speak from their perspective about what the theme "Better Schools, Better Dallas!" means to them.
The Better Schools, Better Dallas! program will focus on academic achievement and student safety in DISD, as well as the district's effort to be a good steward of the tax dollar.
The program is geared to regularly call attention to positive aspects of the district such as the fact that this year the district's test scores in reading and math were the highest ever. Benjamin Franklin Middle School teacher Barbara Dorff is the Texas Secondary Teacher of the Year.
"Our goal is to become more proactive in talking about the good things that are happening in DISD and letting the public know we are focused on turning out graduates who have the skills necessary to make a valuable contribution to the Dallas-area economy," Moses said.
