Students Have Reached Top Academic Levels and are Candidates for National Scholarships
More than 250 DISD students who have been identified as academic achievers will be honored for their accomplishments at 6:30 p.m. Monday, January 7, at the Morton Meyerson Symphony Center, 2301 Flora St. This is the first year the school district will host an event to honor students who are candidates for national awards and scholarships.
DISD General Superintendent Mike Moses will be joined by U. S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, who has been instrumental in securing funding for the advanced placement program at the national level, during the recognition event.
"It is important to recognize the many students who bring honor to our district and to our city. Last spring, approximately 5,789 DISD seniors were awarded more than $37 million in scholarships. This school year, two district schools were highlighted by a local magazine as the best public schools in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. This event is a way of showing our students that their hard work and dedication has not gone unrecognized," said Moses.
Among the certificate recipients are National Merit Semi-Finalists, National Merit Commended, National Achievement Semi-Finalists, National Hispanic Recognition Scholars and National Achievement Commended Scholars.
