Focus To Be On New Schools, Funding For Fine Arts Programs
DALLAS—Several Dallas Independent School District officials on Thursday, January 10, will lead members of the news media on tours of two schools to help show the need for new schools, as well as renovations and repairs for fine arts programs.
Craig Reynolds, who has served as the chair of the district's facilities needs task force for more than five years, will help lead the tours of some of the most significant and visually obvious needs for improvements in the district. Reynolds will be joined by DISD Trustee Rafael Anchia and DISD Youth Mentoring Initiative Director Rene Martinez.
WHAT:Thursday's tour begins at 10:00 a.m. and will include Adamson High School and Sunset High School. Topics covered will be the need for new schools, as well as renovations and repairs to facilities for fine arts programs. Visuals include foundation problems, areas prone to flooding and overcrowded classrooms.

Parking at Adamson will be reserved for media on Story Street located directly across from the school's main entrance. Parking at Sunset will be located in front of the main school entrance on Jefferson. Please do not block the crosswalks.

DISD's Board of Trustees have proposed a $1.366 billion bond proposal that would mean the addition of 20 new schools and 640 classroom additions to schools throughout the district. Voting for the bond election ends on Jan. 19, 2002.
