General Superintendent Mike Moses Is Guest Reader at Lakewood Elementary School
WHAT: The Dallas Independent School District is encouraging every citizen of Dallas to participate in "Drop Everything and Read" (DEAR). The event, calls for the people of Dallas to stop activities for 10 minutes to dedicate time to silent reading.
This is the fifth year the city of Dallas, including 164,000 students from the DISD, will join forces to emphasize the importance of reading. In addition, volunteers from local companies have come on board to serve as "Celebrity Readers" to read aloud to students once DEAR time concludes.
WHEN: At 10 a.m. (for 10 minutes)Wednesday, March 6.
WHERE: Throughout Dallas. All Dallas schools will be celebrating DEAR.
WHY: Locally, Drop Everything and Read is the highlight event of Texas Public Schools Week (March 4-8). By promoting citywide participation, the Dallas schools are calling for citywide support for literacy.
OTHER: Local celebrities will contribute to the compilation of the Superintendent's Reading List which will be distributed through local libraries and book stores.
