Minority Firms in the Construction Business Invited to Trade Forum

4 Feb 2002

DISD Bond Package, Networking Opportunities are Topic of Discussion

DALLAS—In preparation for an increase in the construction of school facilities and other renovations, the Dallas Independent School District will host "Building the Future," a trade forum for construction, architectural and engineering firms at 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, February 23, CityPlace Building, 2711 North Haskell Ave.

The primary focus of the forum is to inform minority and women-owned businesses of the opportunities available through the district's Minority and Women Business Department and to create business networking opportunities. Numerous construction, architectural and engineering firms will be available to discuss current and future contracting opportunities.

The $1.37 billion bond package calls for the construction of 20 new schools, additions to 36 existing facilities and renovations to several district buildings. Construction in the six-year program is expected to begin in 2003.

"DISD has a sincere desire to ensure that all vendors have an equal opportunity to participate in the purchasing process," said department director Annie H. Partee. "We are very pleased that last year, DISD showed an increase in minority and women participation in district ventures. We understand the importance of diversity and supporting businesses in the community we serve."

Participants should bring a company portfolio and a list of projects or business references. A Vendor Profile Form also should be completed. To RSVP, please 972-925-4140.

The event is sponsored by the Hispanic Contractors Association of Dallas, Minority Architects Resource Committee of Dallas-AIA and Quoin.
