Local Bank Helps DISD 7th Graders Map Out Texas History
DALLAS–Seventh grade social studies classes in the Dallas Independent School District have been using a historical Texas map to learn about the state's history. Frost Bank provided a poster-sized reproduction of a restored 1837 Map of Texas with Parts of the Adjoining States along with student activity/study guides to the district's Social Studies department.
Representatives from Frost Bank and the Texas General Land Office will visit J. Long Middle School at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, to explain the importance of the Adopt-A-Map program and show the students how the restoration process works. Frost Bank sponsored the restoration of 20 of 400 Texas historical maps in need of repair and preservation. These include maps created by Stephen F. Austin and O. Henry. The school is located at 6116 Reiger Avenue.
