DISD Takes Applications for Teachers with Three Years of Experience
DALLAS–The Dallas Independent School District will host a Learning Centers Job Fair from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 30, at César Chávez Learning Center, 1701 N. Carroll. The learning centers offer teachers a reduced pupil teacher ratio; incentive pay above the regular teacher salary; and empowering professional growth and summer training. Also, there is a $1,500 signing incentive for teachers who meet the learning center criteria.
"The Learning Centers Job Fair provides teachers who wish to work in school environments focused on instructional, organizational and student development excellence and an opportunity to explore their options," said Shirley Ison-Newsome, area superintendent in charge of the district's 16 learning centers. "We want teachers in the learning centers who have a passion to help students achieve and become successful."
The learning centers are located in south and west Dallas. The centers, mandated by a federal court order, are not only designed to allow students to attend a school in their neighborhood, but also to enhance their educational opportunities, said Hector Flores, DISD director–Recruitment and Retention.
Applicants interested in teaching in the learning centers must meet the following criteria: 1) have a valid teaching certificate; 2) have a minimum of three years of successful teaching experience; 3) have a minimum of three performance evaluation ratings of Meet Expectations; and 4) have a good attendance record. Teachers already employed by DISD must complete a learning center application and a transfer form.
Other certified teachers must complete a learning center application and DISD employment application. They also need a copy of valid teacher certificate, teacher evaluations, references and attendance records.
