Scholarship Recipients Receive Professional Teaching Contract to Work for District After Becoming Fully Certified
DALLAS–The general superintendent of the Dallas Independent School District will award 62 seniors $2,000 scholarships at a reception to be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 18, at The Science Place.
Superintendent Mike Moses will be joined by the Board of Trustees to award at least one senior from every DISD high school a scholarship in recognition for outstanding community service, academic achievement and character recommendations.
"It is always a special event to recognize students for their commitment to their high school education," Moses said. "The scholarship is to award them for their achievement and to provide financial support for a college education."
The graduating seniors will share in $124,000 in scholarships. The scholarships are funded through the proceeds received from the Superintendent's Golf Classic.
The scholarship recipients will be among the first group of 2002 graduates to receive an employment contract to work for the district from the superintendent. The recipients, along with other members in the top 10 percent of their class, will be guaranteed a teaching position in the Dallas Independent School District if they complete all graduation requirements of a university and become a fully certified teacher within the next five years.
Located at Fair Park, The Science Place address is 1318 Second Avenue. For more information about the Superintendent's Scholarship Reception, contact Leonidas Patterson at (972) 925-3900.
