Dallas Arboretum to Host Event April 29
DALLAS–Students from the Dallas Independent School District will participate in a literary event, Reading in the Garden, at 9:30 a.m., Monday, April 29, at the Dallas Arboretum in the DeGolyer Library.
Local author Melinda Rice's book titled Fire on the Hillside will be the topic of discussion. Her book is part of The Lone Star Heroines Series and takes place in 1847 in Fredericksburg, Texas. The students are currently reading the novel. Rice will answer questions about everything from where she gets her ideas to how long it takes to write a novel. A writing coach, Rice will conduct a writing exercise with the Reading in the Garden students.
After Rice's discussion, the students will be taken on a tour of the Texas Pioneer Exhibit at the Arboretum, which will continue with the day's Texas theme. The day will conclude with lunch and entertainment by the Young Strings Program from the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and a dance troupe from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.
DISD students who will be participating in Reading in the Garden are from George W. Carver Learning Center, Gilbert Cuellar Sr. Elementary, Hawthorne Elementary and Sequoyah Learning Center.
The reading program is being hosted by the Dallas Arboretum and Earning by Learning. The Arboretum is located at 8525 Garland Road.
