14 May 2002

District Officials Looks To Hire Qualified Teachers at First Job Fair Set for May 18

DALLAS–With the goal of having a qualified teacher in every classroom, the Dallas Independent School District has scheduled three job fairs to fill vacancies for the upcoming school year, General Superintendent Mike Moses said.

"The district's priority in staffing each classroom is to have a qualified professional who enjoys the challenges and rewards of teaching," Moses said. "These teachers must have the vision, compassion and knowledge necessary to set high academic standards in the classroom and to provide students with the education, skills and tools to meet those expectations."

The first of the three teacher job fairs is scheduled from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 18, at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center, located at 1201 East Eighth Street.

Candidates must complete a screening phase before they are granted an interview with the campus principals at the job fair. The screening process is from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Prospective applicants must have a minimum bachelor's degree with a 2.5 grade point average. Job fair participants should bring references, transcripts and teaching certificate or college letter of recommendation for certification.

After the screening phase, applicants who qualify will be interviewed by school principals. The interview phase is from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

The salary range for teachers in DISD is from $34,100 to $59,267. Annual stipends range from $500 to $3,000 depending on the teaching area. Among the hiring incentives include a signing bonus of $1,500 for teachers cleared for employment by June 28; $1,000 for those cleared by July 31; and $500 for those cleared by Aug. 31.

The other upcoming job fairs are:

•Saturday, June 1, 8 a.m. to noon, Moisés E. Molina High School, 2355 Duncanville Road.

•Saturday, July 27, 8 a.m. to noon, Moisés E. Molina High School, 2355 Duncanville Road.

Prospective candidates who cannot attend the upcoming job fairs should mail copies of their resume, transcripts, college letter of intent or certification to DISD–HF, 3807 Ross Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75204 or fax (972) 925-4300.
