MetLife Outstanding Principal for 2001-02 To Be Selected for DISD
DALLAS–Three principals from the Dallas Independent School District in Areas 1, 2 and 3 will be honored at a breakfast reception in the final round of the MetLife Principal of the Year Competition.
Scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday, June 10, the reception ends a year-long recognition program designed to reward outstanding principals in DISD. Finalists from Areas 4-9 were announced earlier in the school year.
At the breakfast, one of the nine area winners will be selected as the MetLife Principal of the Year. The event will be held at the Wyndham Garden Hotel, located at 2015 Market Center Blvd.
DISD General Superintendent Mike Moses, along with MetLife representatives, will be on hand to congratulate the area winners and the principal of the year honoree.
The nominees for Area 1 Principal of the Year are Mary Bolden, Pleasant Grove Elementary; Judie Klaus, Seagoville High School; and Joe McCalister, Seagoville Elementary. For Area 2, the nominees are Rachel George, Julia Frazier Elementary; Earl Jones, Lincoln High School; Michael Palmer, Joseph J. Rhoads Learning Center; and Constance Whalon, Paul L. Dunbar Learning Center. The nominees for Area 3 are Lynn Dehart, North Dallas High School; Israel Garcia, T.J. Rusk Middle School; Olivia Henderson, Stonewall Jackson Elementary; Santos Martinez, William Lipscomb Elementary; and Alicia Zapata, Eduardo Mata Elementary.
The three finalists selected earlier in the year to represent Areas 4, 5 and 6 respectively are Verna Mitchell, principal at Thomas Tolbert Elementary School; Dwain Govan, principal at Sarah Zumwalt Middle School; Ricardo Atkinson, principal at W.E. Greiner Middle School. The finalists in Areas 7, 8, and 9 respectively are were Larry Allen, Alex Sanger Elementary School; Veronica Pasternak, Harry C. Withers Elementary School; and Richard White, School of Science and Engineering at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center.
The nomination criteria took into consideration leadership, management, community relations and communications skills.
