District Schedules Job Fair to Hire Qualified Teachers for 2002-03 School Year
DALLAS–The Dallas Independent School District is hosting a teacher job fair from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 27, at Moisés E. Molina High School, 2355 Duncanville Road.
The district plans to have at least 1,500 teachers hired by the first day of school which is Aug. 26. Principals are looking for teachers in all areas. However, the critical shortage-teaching areas for the district include early childhood (PK-K), math, bilingual education, Spanish, ESL, science and special education.At the district's job fairs, candidates must complete a screening phase before they are granted an interview with the campus principals. The screening process is from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Applicants must have a bachelor's degree with a 2.5 grade point average. In order to be eligible to interview, applicants will either need to be certified, or bring a college deficiency plan for certification. Other applicants can meet with representatives of the district's Alternative Certification Program.
Job fair participants should bring references, transcripts and teaching certificate or college letter of recommendation for certification. After the screening phase, applicants who qualify will be interviewed by school principals. The interview phase is from 8:30 a.m. to noon.
Approved by the DISD Board of Trustees, the starting salary for beginning teachers in the district is $37,000. Hiring incentives include a signing bonus of $1,000 for those cleared by July 31; and $500 for those cleared by Aug. 31.
