Enrolling Your Child In The DISD Is Easy As ABC

166,000 Students Expected To Enroll for Upcoming School Year

DALLAS– Students are eligible to enroll in the Dallas Independent School District if they are at least five and under 21-years of age on the first day of September.

The first day of school is August 26. For the expected 7,000 prekindergarten students, classes begin Sept. 3.

Overall, student enrollment for the 2002-03 school year is expected to be 166,000. These students must reside in the attendance boundaries and provide satisfactory evidence of required immunizations. Students receiving special education services may continue to be enrolled in school until they reach the age of 22 on Sept. 1.

All students who are enrolling in the DISD from another school district should have the following information:

• Birth certificate

• Immunization record

• Proof of residency

To enroll in a prekindergarten program, a child must be at least four years of age on or before Sept. 1 of the current school year and meet any one of the following criteria:

• Unable to speak and comprehend the English language; or

• Come from a family whose income, according to standards set by the State Board of Education, is at or below the subsistence level established by the state of Texas and according to federal guidelines; or

• Eligible for homeless services.
