New DISD Teachers To Attend Fair

9 Aug 2002

Almost 1,500 Teachers Expected

DALLAS—Almost 1,500 beginning and veteran teachers who are new to the Dallas Independent School District will attend the New Teacher Fair as part of the district's efforts to acclimate its new staff before the school year begins August 26.

The fair will be held at the Apparel Mart, 2300 Stemmons Freeway, Tuesday, Aug. 13, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. General Superintendent Mike Moses will address the general session which is from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

"The fair is an excellent way to make new teachers feel welcomed," said Jaqueline Landry, associate superintendent—Program Development and Staff Training. "They receive valuable information and have an opportunity to address common concerns that will ease their transition to a new city or school district."

The New Teacher Fair is a celebration of the urban environment. During the general session, teachers are welcomed by the superintendent and other administrators and receive a brief introduction to the mentoring program or attend a presentation for experienced teachers.

Following the general session, the new teachers will attend staff development breakout sessions and also will visit the exhibit hall where vendors from the community will greet them and provide information about services and products.

The fair is designed to introduce the teachers to the leadership team, mission and priorities of the district.
