DISD Students Recognize Culture with Music, Food & Dance
DALLAS--From the middle of September to the end of October, students in the Dallas Independent School District will be participating in activities in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month.
Designated by a presidential proclamation, Hispanic Heritage Month is from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.
DISD schoolchildren are using the designated time to acknowledge the rich heritage of Hispanic Americans and the many contributions they have made to the American culture.
During September, students at Harry Stone Montessori have organized several activities. From Sept. 9 to Sept. 16, they will have morning announcements on famous Mexican leaders and an essay contest based on the life of Cesar Chavez. On Oct. 10 the school will host folkloric dancers in the school auditorium at 10 a.m. - noon. The school is located at 4747 Veterans Drive.
At Cesar Chavez Learning Center a ballet folklorico dance team will perform Sept. 19 in the school auditorium at 9:30 and 10:45 a.m. Theatre arts students also will present a skit on the meaning of Sept. 16 in Mexican history. Cesar Chavez Learning Center is located at 1710 N. Carroll Avenue.
The students at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts will display artwork throughout September. Students also will perform mime skits on Sept. 27-30 at the Leach Auditorium at 7 p.m. The school is located at 2501 Flora Street.
