New State-Mandated Test to be Offered this Year
DALLAS--The Dallas Independent School District has released the testing schedule for the new school year that began Aug. 26 which includes the new state-mandated exam, the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills.
The TAKS replaces the TAAS and will test higher-order thinking skills. In reading, for example, students will need to analyze texts more deeply. In math, they will be asked to solve multiple-step problems and become familiar with probability and statistics, algebra and geometry. TAKS also will have more essay questions and cover a broader spectrum of knowledge.
The tests must be taken on the specific dates they are scheduled. TAKS exams will be given to students Feb. 25, March 4, May 1 and 2.
