DISD Students Recognize Culture with Plays, & Displays
DALLAS--In November students in the Dallas Independent School District will be participating in activities in recognition of American Indian Heritage Month. Designated by a presidential proclamation, American Indian Heritage Month acknowledges the rich heritage of Native Americans and the many contributions they have made to the American culture.
Among the activities planned, Stephen Foster Elementary School students on Nov.13 at 1:30 p.m. will pay homage to all the ancestors and their contributions to the world through songs, poems and native crafts. The students also will have representatives from the American Indian Society present.
On Nov. 24, students at Spence Middle School from 2:55 to 3:30 p.m. will perform a play called The Path of Thunder. The play deals with the Native American culture of honoring life, honoring elders and honoring heritage.
At Carter High School, Kay Fuselier's English classes in American Literature will drum the names of Indian tribes who have given their names to many places in the United States. Performances on Friday, Nov. 8, begin at 8:45 a.m., and on Monday, Nov. 11, performances are at 8:45 - 9:15 a.m., 12:30 - 1 p.m. and 3:45 - 4:15 p.m.
