Concerts Open to the Public<>

DALLAS—Elementary students from across Dallas will arrive Thursday, Nov. 21, at A. Maceo Smith High School, 3030 Stag Road, to blend their voices in a special free concert beginning at 7 p.m.

The first of two all–city performances provides the opportunity to hear the accomplishments of young people within the Dallas Independent School District. By audition, 180 students were selected for each of the all–city choirs.

John Hammerle, director of Fine Arts, believes that involvement in music programs makes a contribution to education that reaches beyond intrinsic value and adds a special richness to the learning environment.

"As these students imagine, create and reflect, they are developing verbal and nonverbal abilities as well as problem-solving abilities and higher order thinking skills," Hammerle said. "A comprehensive music and art program helps students develop the discipline, cooperation and motivation necessary for increased self-esteem and success for life."

The All–City Middle School Choir Concert featuring selected seventh and eighth grade students will perform at 4 p.m , Saturday, Dec. 7, at W.H. Atwell Middle School, 1303 Reynoldston Lane.
