DISD Superintendent Mike Moses Congratulates Him on New Post
DALLAS—Dallas Independent School District Superintendent Mike Moses on Wednesday congratulated Hector Montenegro, who serves as deputy superintendent for Instructional Services, for being selected superintendent of El Paso's Ysleta School District.
Montenegro, 51, received a 7-0 vote from the Ysleta school trustees during their Tuesday board meeting. Ysleta had been without a school superintendent for almost a year.
"I am very grateful and appreciative to Dr. Moses for giving me the opportunity to come to Dallas," Montenegro said. "It has been a wonderful opportunity and I have been impressed by the commitment and talent of the faculty and staff of DISD. This has been a very difficult decision because my family and I have been very happy in Dallas and the community has been very supportive."
Moses said he appreciated the leadership and work Montenegro has done in the year and a half he has been with DISD, and said he will be missed, while also saying Ysleta will be getting a good administrator who is dedicated to making education better for all schoolchildren.
"The Ysleta School District will surely benefit from his experience and skills as a superintendent. We are honored that another official from DISD has been selected to serve as a superintendent in a major Texas school district," said Moses.
Montenegro, who has served in DISD since July of 2001, has been enrolled in the University of Texas at Austin, doctoral fellow, cooperative superintendency program.
Before joining DISD, Montenegro served as superintendent of the San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District. The Los Angeles native also has been an administrator in Austin, a principal in the Washington, D.C. area and a teacher in San Jose, California.
