Mid-Year Graduation Set for Jan. 29 at David W. Carter High School
DALLAS–One hundred sixty-seven students from reconnection centers at various Dallas Independent School District high schools are eligible to participate in the DISD's mid-year graduation ceremony scheduled for 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 29, at David W. Carter High School.
These candidates for graduation--many of whom have returned to school after dropping out--have accomplished a major milestone by fulfilling the requirements for high school graduation, said H. B. Bell, associate superintendent–Alternative Programs. He added that the special commencement ceremony provides an opportunity for the students and their parents to affirm their decision to return to school and complete the work necessary to earn a high school diploma.
"It's important that we hold commencement exercises for these young people who missed their traditional ceremony," Bell said. "We think these students will be among the most enthusiastic, appreciative audience of high school graduates to be found anywhere."
Bell said there are many reasons that prompted these students to leave school or fall short of the number of credits required for graduation. He said students may have fallen behind in classwork, left school for disciplinary reasons, become parents or experienced a variety of other obstacles to completing their education.
