Bilingual Workshop Helps Students Access Financial Aid Resources

College applications and financial aid forms will be filed on the spot

DALLAS—A college admissions, financial aid and scholarship application workshop has been scheduled from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, February 15, at Eastfield College, 3737 Motley Dr.

The "One Stop Does it All" free workshop is spearheaded by Keys to Success /Las Llaves del Exito and will bring bilingual volunteers to a central location to assist students fill out financial aid forms and admission applications on site. Both forms will be filed electronically to speed up the process. In addition, a hands-on workshop on essay writing will be offered to help students meet this requirement.

"The goal of this event is to increase the number of students who apply and get admitted for college by eliminating the barriers that traditionally keep them from pursuing higher education—such as completing the application process, especially the essay, and filling out the financial aid forms," said Rafael Anchía, Dallas Independent School District Board Trustee.

Participants should bring the following documents in order to complete the process:

-Official high school transcript

-Sample essay for scholarship/university applications

-Social Security number, only if student and/or parents are US citizens or permanent residents

-Driver's license, if the student has one

-Student and parents' W-2 forms or other record of income earned such as a letter from the employer stating income earned in 2002

-2002 untaxed income records—Social Security benefits, veterans benefits, temporary assistance to needy families

-Recent copy of bank statement(s), if any

-Permanent Resident Registration card, if any
