Elementary Students To Speak of Space, Launch Rockets, Hold Ceremony With Shuttle Simulator
DALLAS—Nearly each time NASA launches a space shuttle mission from Florida, Withers Elementary School students often simultaneously conduct their own space experiments while "flying" in a homemade space shuttle simulator housed in a science lab of their north Dallas School.
On Monday, at 1 p.m., the school will hold a memorial ceremony in honor of the Columbia crew who perished high above the skies of north Texas on Feb. 1.
Beginning in their courtyard, students will conduct an outdoor memorial ceremony. They will then proceed to Alta Vista Field on campus, where the Withers Rocketeers will launch a miniature rocket in honor of each astronaut on the Columbia. Then in room 116 of the school, a small group of students will conduct a personal ceremony in front of their space shuttle simulator.
Withers Elementary is located at 3959 Northaven Road.
