DISD Students Recognize Treasures of Public Education
DALLAS— Scheduled for March 3-7, Texas Public Schools Week brings a special focus on education. This year's theme is Public Schools… Your Texas Treasure . From the students to the business community, the theme symbolizes the many jewels, which truly make public schools the treasure of Texas.
In recognition of Texas Public Schools Week, elementary, middle and high schools across the Dallas Independent School District have planned activities that focus on the school as a community of students, teachers, parents, and business partners.
To celebrate Texas Public Schools Week, the students at Ronald McNair Elementary will participate in a read-in from 9 a.m.- 10:30 a.m. Friday March 7. Parents, partners and volunteers are encouraged to attend the read-in. Books, goodie bags and t-shirts will be distributed to the readers and students.
Students at George Truett Elementary will host a variety of events to recognize Texas Public School Week.. On Tuesday, March 4, the students will have uniform day. All students in uniform will receive a treat. Wednesday, March 5, is snuggle up with a book day. Students will bring in their pillow and blanket and read their favorite books. Friday, March 7 winners of essay contest are announced and the winner has lunch with the principal.
During the first week of March, students at Fred Florence Middle School will learn about individuals who have made a contribution to education. The accomplishments of these pioneers of education will be read daily to the student body during the morning announcements.
