DISD Graduate Stresses Importance of Community Service
DALLAS– Now a West Point Military Academy student, a former president of the Teen Board for the Dallas Independent School District, is scheduled to speak to the current members of the advisory council at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 13, at the School Administration Building, 3700 Ross Avenue.
Justin Bowen will talk to the DISD Teen Board members about community service and the rewards of giving. Bowen learned a lot about community involvement and helping others during his service on the district's Teen Board.
Comprised of senior and junior class presidents from each high school, the members participate in several community service projects throughout the year. One of the council's upcoming project, People Helping People, is an agenda item at the Teen Board's meeting today. People Helping People is a community service project in which students will have the opportunity to adopt a house to paint.
In addition to service projects, the students present issues and concerns of their classmates to the general superintendent and are charged to champion and support district's initiatives.
