Parents and the Community: A Winning Combination For Our Children
DALLAS—Dallas Independent School District Trustee Lew Blackburn will spend the morning of Saturday, April 12, offering a full menu of education topics for students, teachers and parents of District 5 – East Oak Cliff and West Dallas. The host site is A. Maceo Smith High School, 3030 Stag Rd.
Parents and the Community : A Winning Combination For Our Children is the theme for the event which begins at 8 a.m. with continental breakfast. Remarks from a pair of motivational speakers are scheduled: teacher and former U.S. Senate candidate Victor Morales will address motivating children in spite of barriers, and consultant and Friendship West Baptist Church associate pastor Marilyn Giles will speak about the importance of parental involvement.
A series of mini-sessions follows, with a variety of topics aimed to help parents and educators work together for student success. Presentations include:

Everyone who attends Seldon Short's session about maintaining student interest in reading, Reading Aloud to Young People, will receive a free book for reading aloud from publisher Scott Foresman.
