DISD Names 2003 Teacher of the Year Finalists

District Teacher of the Year to be Announced at Upcoming Banquet in May

DALLAS–Four finalists for 2003-2004 DISD Teacher of the Year were named Monday, April 14, at the annual Ice Cream Social held to recognize all of the teachers of the year selected by the district's 218 campuses.

The finalists were selected by a committee of judges based on interviews and essay packets outlining their teaching philosophy, professional background and record of community involvement. The finalists are:

* Nancy Bagwell, Thomas C. Marsh Middle School. Bagwell teaches seventh grade English/language arts. She has been in her present position for 10 years and has 17 years of teaching experience.

*Dian Hetrick, Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary School. Hetrick teaches fourth grade language arts. She has been in her present position for six years and has 30 years of teaching experience.

* Randi Hinds, Thomas Jefferson High School. Hinds teaches multimedia to tenth, eleventh and twelfth grade students. She has four years experience in her present position and a total of 13 years teaching experience.

* Georgianna Wood, Preston Hollow Elementary School. Wood has taught kindergarten at Preston Hollow for 13 years and has a total of 29 years of teaching experience.

Each of the finalists received a check for $1,000. The teacher of the year will be announced at a banquet Thursday, May 22. The winner will receive $5,000 and will represent the district in the regional competition.
