Scholarship Recipients Receive Professional Teaching Contract to Work for District After Becoming Fully Certified
DALLAS–The general superintendent of the Dallas Independent School District will award 62 seniors $2,000 scholarships at a reception to be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, at The Science Place at Fair Park.
Superintendent Mike Moses will be joined by the Board of Trustees to award at least one senior from every DISD high school a scholarship in recognition of outstanding community service, academic achievement and character recommendations.
"It is always a special event to recognize students for their commitment to their high school education," Moses said. "The scholarship is to reward them for their achievement and to provide financial support for a college education."
The graduating seniors will share in $124,000 in scholarships. The scholarships are funded through the proceeds received from the Superintendent's Golf Classic.
For the second year, the superintendent will offer an employment contract to work for the district to recipients of the Superintendent's Scholarship. The recipients, along with other members in the top 10 percent of their graduating class, will be guaranteed a teaching position in the Dallas Independent School District if they complete all graduation requirements of a university and become fully certified teachers within the next five years.
