Public Forum Focuses on Federal Funding
DALLAS—The Dallas Independent School District will host a public forum to discuss federal funding for school programs Thursday, May 22, from 5:30 - 7 p.m. at the School Administration Building, 3700 Ross Avenue.
Through the No Child Left Behind Act, federal funds are allocated to states and then to local agencies, including the DISD. Citizens are invited to attend the public forum to provide input for the most effective use of these funds, within the guidelines of the federal legislation.
Programs to be reviewed include Title I, Title II, Title III, Title IV and Title V. These programs address fair and equal opportunity especially for low income students; teacher and principal training and recruitment; technology; English language acquisition; safe and drug free schools and communities; and education reform and school improvement.
"An important part of the new No Child Left Behind legislation is enlisting parents as partners in their children's education," said Douglas Ochandarena, executive manager–Grants Acquisition and Management. "The DISD is currently making plans for next year's No Child Left Behind programs. This forum is the parents' opportunity to learn more about the new law and the district's plans, and to provide input and comments before plans are finalized."
Allen R. Sullivan, assistant superintendent–Student Development, invites participation from anyone who has questions or comments about after-school programming. "The district currently provides students opportunities to participate in a variety of after-school programs," Sullivan said. "Our partnerships with parents and community members can provide the support needed by children during the out-of-school hours."
