District Schedules Job Fair to Hire Qualified Teachers for 2003-04 School Year
DALLAS–The Dallas Independent School District is hosting a teacher job fair from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 31, at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center, 1201 E. Eighth Street.
The participants attending the job fair must be fully-certified teachers from Texas or other states. Principals are looking for teachers in all areas; however, the critical shortage-teaching areas for the district include early childhood (PK-K), math, bilingual education, Spanish, ESL, science and special education.
Job fair participants should bring references, transcripts and teaching certificate. After the screening phase, applicants who qualify will be interviewed by school principals. The interview phase is from 8:30 a.m. to noon.
Approved by the DISD Board of Trustees, the starting salary for beginning teachers in the district is $37,000. Hiring incentives include a signing bonus of $1,500 for those cleared by June 30; $1,000 for those cleared by July 31; and $500 for those cleared by Aug. 29. The annual stipends for teachers assigned to critical need areas range from $500 to $3,000.
"There is a significant pool of highly qualified teachers who are interested in teaching in the Dallas schools," said Hector Flores, DISD recruitment director–Human Resource Services. "The district's competitive salary package, hiring bonuses and incentives and stipends are attracting great candidates to the DISD."
