>Grand opening ceremony is Saturday

DALLAS—The grand opening of a center dedicated to ease the enrollment process of students new to the country will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, August 16—just in time for the start of school in the Dallas Independent School District on August 18.

Superintendent Mike Moses and DISD Trustees will welcome community leaders, including representatives from the Mexican Consulate and several organizations, to the center which is located at 2617 N. Henderson, behind Bonham Elementary.

Center staff have been assisting parents since June. To date more than 1,000 enrollment applications have been processed. The process includes a test for students in grades 2-12 to determine their placement in bilingual education, English-as-a-Second Language or general education programs.

Bilingual staff provide translation services in Spanish, Vietnamese, Amharic, Bosnian, and Cambodian.
