Schools, Radio, Television Celebrities, Elected Officials to Mark Beginning of 2003-2004 School Year

DALLAS–Dallas Independent School District schools in Trustee District 9 are planning a Back to School parade at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, to emphasize community support for education. School bands, cheerleaders, drill teams, clubs and PTAs are expected to gather for the parade at 8 a.m. at the corner of Good-Latimer and Commerce streets in South Dallas. The parade will travel down Commerce for 1-1/2 miles and end at Parry and Exposition streets.

District 9 Trustee Ron Price said he wants to get the students and community excited about returning to school. "In education, we know the importance of having children in school the first day and every day," he said. "My hope is that the parade will send the message loudly and clearly that school is the place to be, the place where students will be welcomed, motivated and experience success."

Radio and television celebrities, elected officials and others also are expected to participate. For more information about the District 9 Back to School parade, call the trustee's office at (972) 925-3716.
