1,000 Computers will be given to Students
DALLAS—The Dallas Independent School District's Technology Outreach Program will distribute 1,000 computers to district students Saturday, Sept. 13, at 8:30 a.m., at Service Center II Facility, 3701 South Lamar.
Area superintendents and school principals selected the students who will receive a computer. Only students without computers at home were eligible for the give away.
The Technology Outreach Program will provide students and parents with basic computer training and technical support after the distribution. In addition they will complete the "Contract for Success" and "Internet Acceptable Use Policy by Students" forms.
During the past three years, the department has distributed more than 3,000 donated computers to district students through the Connect-A-Student to Technology program. The program's goals include improved literacy, increased proficiency and improved teacher-parent-student interaction.
With an emphasis on enhanced learning and bridging the digital divide, the program is turning recycled donated computers into at-home learning tools for our students. The computers are donated to DISD through partnerships with various corporations, governmental agencies, higher education institutions, foundations, community groups and individuals.
