District-City Partnership First For The City Library System
DALLAS—Dallas Independent School District officials joined Dallas city officials Thursday, Aug. 21, for the groundbreaking for the first school to be built with funds from the 2002 bond program.
The new elementary school and city library to be built in Arcadia Park is a historic joint venture between the city and the district. The facility will be located at 1300 Justin Street.
"I would like to thank the citizens of Dallas for the support they gave education with the approval of the $1.37 billion bond program," said Superintendent Mike Moses. "We had a vision and that vision was shared by our community. For the next four years or so the neighborhoods of Dallas will see changes, brand new school facilities will be built throughout the city."
Approved by 78 percent of Dallas voters, the bond program is more than double the size of any other education bond program in Texas history. Twenty new schools will be built in the district over the next five years.
When completed in August of 2004, the Arcadia Park replacement school will be about 91,000 square feet and the library will be about 18,000 square feet. The project will be managed by Austin Commercial and constructed by Coronado Builders. Vidaud and Associates designed the buildings.
A second groundbreaking is being planned for the Reilly Annex School in northeast Dallas. The Arcadia Park School and Reilly Annex schools are scheduled to open in August of 2004.
