U. S. Senator John Cornyn Will Make Presentation to District Officials
DALLAS–A $1.8 million grant to hire additional law enforcement officers will be presented to the Dallas Independent School District at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, in the School Administration Building, 3700 Ross Ave.
U.S. Senator John Cornyn will make the presentation to Deputy Superintendent Mary Roberts and DISD Police Chief Manny Vasquez.
The grant, funded by Community Oriented Policing Services, will enable schools to hire additional law enforcement officers and fund instruction for law enforcement officers on terrorism prevention, emergency response, and the essential role schools play in community preparedness.
Known as COPS In Schools, the organization's grants provide up to $125,000 per officer, over a three year period, to cover salaries and benefits of new resource officers. The grant also provides school safety training for the officer and an administrator from the school where the officer will be assigned.
