DISD Trustees Ron Price, Joe May Emphasize Importance of Getting GED

Upcoming fair will provide information about requirements needed to obtain high school diploma

DALLAS-A news conference to announce the Third Annual "No One Left Behind" 2003 GED Fair will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, in Room 105, School Administration Building, 3700 Ross Ave.

Dallas Independent School District trustees Ron Price and Joe May will talk about the importance of obtaining a GED diploma. Black Chamber of Commerce President Reginald Gates and Hispanic Chamber of Commerce President Arturo Violante also will be present.

There are statistics that suggest 221,858 Dallas residents lack a high school diploma—47,281 are African American; 135,317 are Hispanic, and 28,603 are Anglo.

The Saturday, Oct. 18, GED Fair will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at James Madison High School, 3000 Martin Luther King Blvd.; Cesar Chavez Learning Center, 1710 N. Carroll; and W. H. Adamson High School, 201 East 9th St. Fair participants will receive information about the steps needed to complete their education, resources available to them and time and location of adult education classes.

The event is sponsored by the district's Adult Basic Education Department.
