Business, Community Leaders Return to School as Principals
DALLAS—More than 150 schools in the Dallas Independent School District will have business and community leaders taking over the duties of the campus principal Wednesday, Oct. 29.
Elected officials, journalists and bank administrators are among the volunteers who have accepted an invitation to become Principal for a Day. The annual event is one of the district's Partners in Education projects to help raise awareness and understanding among private sector individuals of the strengths and challenges of public education.
The day's activities may include meetings with the faculty, teaching classes, reading to students or addressing an assembly. While spending a day at school, the principals for a day will have an opportunity to learn about the operations of the campus, and are encouraged to share ideas for improvement.
Some of this year's participants include Seagoville Mayor Jim Wilkins; Director of the Dallas Public Library Ramiro Salazar; State Representative Helen Giddings; State Representative Dan Branch; Univision Anchorman Mario Montes; Dallas City Councilman Bill Blaydes; and Senior Vice President of South Trust Bank Bruce Bradford.
