Honor Choir Concert Features Multicultural Program
DALLAS—No sound is sweeter than that of children's voices, and at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, the Dallas Independent School District's Elementary All City Honor Choir will sing in harmony at A. Maceo Smith High School, 3030 Stag Rd.
Titled The Colors of Music , this year's free concert has a multicultural theme. Featured selections vary from The Heavens Are Telling by Haydn to Johnny Mercer's swinging tune Accentuate the Positive.
DISD elementary students in grades 4-6 audition for membership in the all city honor choir. Many of these young singers become members of the district's middle and high school honor choirs, as well as audition and place in the region and Texas state honor choirs. Membership in the performing group is held in such high regard that choir members' brothers and sisters have made involvement a family tradition.
The choir, originally founded in 1989 with 40 members, has grown to 200 members from 40 schools. In its first year, the choir traveled to Washington, D.C. to participate in America Sings!, a program focused on the plight of homeless kids. Other past performances include a joint concert with the Texas Boys Choir.
The success of the Dallas Elementary All City Honor Choir is the result of dedicated work and commitment by the teachers and choir members. For information about the Colors of Music concert, call Dianne Vernon at (972) 749-2558.
