DALLAS—Students in the Dallas Independent School District will be participating in activities during American Education Week 2003 from Nov. 16-22. This year's theme is Great Public Schools for Every Child—America's Promise.

Students will recognize the educators and school staff for helping them stay safe and healthy, as well as help them achieve academically. Among the activities planned, Jimmie Tyler Brashear Early Childhood Development Center will kick off their week by hosting a special celebration called 25 Years of Educational Excellence Sunday, Nov. 16, at 3 p.m. in the LBJ Auditorium. The school is located at 3434 S. R.L. Thornton Frwy.

At Harrell Budd Elementary School, students in grades 3-6 will host a writing contest on why their school is a great public school; PK-2 students will have a poster contest. There also will be a schoolwide door-decorating contest that will reflect this year's theme. These events will take place throughout the week. Parents will be invited to have Thanksgiving lunch with their child on Thursday, Nov. 20. The school is located at 2121 S Marsalis Ave.
