August 16 is First Day of Classes
DALLAS–The Dallas Independent School District Board of Trustees at its Dec. 18 meeting approved the calendar for 2004-2005 school year.
"The district understands the benefits of adopting a calendar for the upcoming year early," said Superintendent Mike Moses. "Now that the 2004-2005 calendar has been adopted by the trustees, parents can begin making summer plans for their children. Plus, the calendar is helpful for teachers who plan to take classes or attend conferences during the summer months."
The district start of August 16 complies with the Texas law passed in 2001 which states that Texas schools can begin classes no earlier than the week in which Aug. 21 falls unless a waiver is granted.
