Townview Center Site of Event, Jan. 24
DALLAS–The Dallas Independent School District Parent Academy will be held 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 24 at Townview Center, 1201 East 8th Street.
The academy will share centerstage with the Magnet School Fair, but its focus will be on higher education opportunities for students and an orientation for parents about the magnet school application process.
"It is very important that parents who have an interest in enrolling their children in a district magnet school attend the Parent Academy and visit the Magnet Fair," says Rene Martinez, special assistant to the superintendent—Dropout Prevention and Community Outreach. "Starting at the elementary level, the magnet schools offer students opportunities to develop their skills and talents be it in music or science, arts or technology, and it's crucial that we take advantage of these choices that are being offered to all children in the district."
Information at the Parent Academy will be offered in English and Spanish. In addition, parents will have an opportunity to enjoy performances by students and receive information and brochures regarding the different schools in the magnet program.
Applications to the district magnet schools will be available in schools and the administration building at 3700 Ross Ave. starting Jan. 26. The first day to submit applications to the program is Feb. 2. The deadline to submit applications is Feb. 20.
