Public Input Sought In DISD Textbook Selection Process

Committee to hear public testimony Feb. 5

DALLAS—The Dallas Independent School District will hold a public meeting so citizens may express comments about the adoption of textbooks Thursday, Feb. 5, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in Room 346, School Administration Building, 3700 Ross Ave.

Textbooks considered for adoption are listed:

• Agricultural Science and Technology Education, Grades 9-12

•Business Education, Grades 6-8/Grades 9-12

• Career Orientation, Grades 6-8/Grades 9-12

•Health Science Technology Education, Grades 9-12

• Family and Consumer Sciences Education, Grades 6-8/Grades 9-12

ß•Marketing Education, Grades 9-12

ß Technology Education/Industrial Technology Education, Grades 6-8/Grades 9-12

• Trade and Industrial Education, Grades 9-12

•English as a Second Language, Grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8

•Science - Biology, Grades 9-12

•Technology Applications, Grades K-2/Grades 3-5/Grades 6-8/Grades 9-12

Those interested in offering testimony should follow the following guidelines:

Only residents of Dallas and/or parents of DISD students may testify; speakers must register at least three working days prior to the scheduled event by calling Brenda Burford at 214-932-7313. Speakers must follow a three-minute limit when making a presentation.

Written comments and copies of public testimony may be submitted to Textbook Adoption Process, Dallas Independent School District, 3434 South R.L. Thornton Frwy., #106, Dallas, Texas 75224.

CENTRAL TEXTBOOK COMMITTEE MEETINGS For Textbook Adoption, 2003 - 2004 February 3-6, 2004, 8:00 - 4:30 P.M. @ DISD's Administration Building, 3700 Ross Avenue, Room 346 (Dr. Moses/designee chairs this committee.) February 3-4 - Members hear Publishers' Presentations February 5 - Members hear Public Testimony February 6 - Members prepare rationales for textbooks recommended for adoption
