First Day to File Tuesday, Feb. 17
DALLAS– Beginning Tuesday, Feb. 17, the Dallas Independent School District Office of Board Services will provide information and accept candidate filings for the trustee election.
The seats currently up for re-election are District 4, Southeast Dallas and Seagoville, held by George Williams; District 5, East Oak Cliff and West Dallas, held by Lew Blackburn; and District 7, Central Oak Cliff and West Dallas, held by Rafael Anchía.
Those who are interested in running for a board seat may obtain a filing packet from the Office of Board Services at the Administration Building located at 3700 Ross Ave. Office hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each weekday until the filing deadline Monday, March 15. The election will be held on Saturday, May 15.
In order to qualify for a board seat, a citizen must be 18 years of age or older on the first day of the term to be filled, a registered voter, a resident of the state for 12 months, and a resident of the trustee district for six months.
All of the Dallas board trustees are elected from single-member districts to serve rotating, three–year terms of office. Serving without compensation, the DISD board members are charged with hiring the superintendent, approving the annual budget, adopting policy and evaluating district performance.
