Schools Tie in Recycling Contest

DALLAS– Who says trash is a waste? Two DISD elementary schools, J.T. Saldivar and S.S. Conner, will receive visits Friday, Feb. 6, from two Dallas Mavericks' players who think the students are tops for making a clean environment a top priority.

Mavericks All-Star guard Steve Nash and the Dallas Mavericks created the Recycle with Steve Nash program to teach students the importance of recycling to the environment. The program allowed teachers to enrich science curriculum with an essay contest and a recycling challenge. This year's Recycling Challenge resulted in a tie. As a result, Nash has recruited team member Dirk Nowitzki to help recognize the most successful schools.

Steve Nash will speak to students at J.T. Saldivar Elementary School, 9510 Brockbank Dr. and Dirk Nowitzki will visit S.S. Conner Elementary School, 3037 Greenmeadow Dr. Both events begin at 2:30 p.m.
