Dallasite and University of Arkansas Alumnus Bill Montgomery Donates $250,000 to Create Scholarships to Alma Mater

DALLAS–Dallas Independent School District Superintendent Mike Moses at a Wednesday, Feb. 4, news conference recognized the donors of a quarter million dollar endowment to create a scholarship fund for Dallas area students at the University of Arkansas.

Joined by officials from the University of Arkansas, Moses thanked Bill and Susan Montgomery for their donation of $250,000 to endow a scholarship fund for DISD students at the university, Bill Montgomery's alma mater.

The Montgomery's donation will be matched by a grant from the Walton Family Charitable Support Foundation to create two $12,500 scholarships to be awarded annually to students from DISD or Montgomery's high school alma mater, R. L. Turner High School in Carrollton. The endowment will be called the "Dallas Scholars" Honors Academy Fellowships.

Moses said the donation will further the district's goal of encouraging DISD graduates to pursue higher education.

"A gift such as this serves as a strong motivation to DISD graduates to pursue college degrees," said Moses. "We often tell our students, do the work and the money to pursue your dreams of college will be there. Thanks to the generous donation from Bill and Susan Montgomery, the dreams of many talented and deserving DISD graduates will become a reality."
