DISD Invites Parents To Visit Their Child's School
DALLAS—The spring parent/teacher conferences for the Dallas Independent School District are scheduled to give parents the opportunity to visit teachers in their children's classroom environment.
Parent/teacher conferences are March 1, for high schools; March 2, for elementary schools; and March 4, for middle schools students. All the parent/teacher conferences are from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Parents are encouraged to attend these meetings to forge better communication between teachers and parents. The conferences give teachers and parents an opportunity to have a dialogue about the student's progress, classroom activities and teacher's expectations.
Some things to keep in mind: Be there on time, plan on not running over your specific appointment time. If you are a working parent who can't meet during regular hours, make arrangements to set up a new time that is accommodating for both of you.
"What kinds of tests are given?," "What do the tests tell about my child's progress?," "Does my child get along with others?," "What are my child's best and worst subjects?," "Is my child working up to his or her ability?," are some questions to ask. Other key questions include, "Has my child missed any classes other than the ones I contacted the school about?," "Have you noticed any sudden changes in the way my child acts?" Remember the best conferences are those in which teacher and parent stay calm and work together for the benefit of the child.
