District To Provide Information About How Changes Will Reduce Overcrowding,
Better Utilize Space in Five Schools
DALLAS—The Dallas Independent School District has scheduled an information meeting with parents of students who attend five schools in the Seagoville area Monday, March 8, to provide information about attendance zone changes that have been made for the 2004-05 school year.
The meeting will be held in the Seagoville High School Auditorium at 6 p.m. Parents of Seagoville High School, Seagoville Middle School, Central Elementary, Seagoville Elementary and Kleberg Elementary are invited to attend.
The changes, which were approved by the district's nine-member Board of Trustees in January, are part of an effort by the district to reduce overcrowding and to ensure better use of district facilities.
The changes also are part of a plan to begin reconfiguring the grade levels for all schools. For example, the district eventually will have all elementary schools to include grades pre-kindergarten through fifth. Middle schools will be made up of grades six, seven and eight. High schools in the district will be made up freshman, sophomores, juniors and seniors.
"We have scheduled a meeting to provide the community with important information about the schools in their area," said Jim Scales, deputy superintendent—Administrative Services. "We are encouraging the parents of students at five schools in the Seagoville area to join us to talk about how we are going to make the changes happen as smoothly and conveniently as possible."
During the meeting, parents will receive information about how Seagoville and Central elementary schools will be reconfigured to house students in grades pre-kindergarten to six.
Attendance zone changes affect the following areas:
• North of C.F. Hawn (Highway 175), which will be divided at May Road, with the east side of May Road going to Central and the west side of May Road to Beauford Road/Ravenview Road, Seagoville Road, and Belt Line Road going to Kleberg,. Also included in the Kleberg zone is the area south of C.F. Hawn (Highway 175) bounded by Edd Road, Land Drive, and Belt Line Road.
• The area south of C.F. Hawn (Highway 175) bounded by Belt Line Road, to Log Cabin Road, to a line extending from Log Cabin Road to the Trinity River, the Trinity River, and the Dallas County line will now be in the Seagoville Elementary zone.
