10 Candidates File for DISD Trustee Election

May 15 is Election Day

DALLAS—Ten candidates will seek a seat on the Dallas Independent School District's Board of Trustees on Saturday, May 15.

The seats currently up for re-election are: District 4, Southeast Dallas and Seagoville, held by George Williams; District 5, East Oak Cliff and West Dallas, held by Lew Blackburn; and District 7, Central Oak Cliff and West Dallas, held by Rafael Anchía. George Williams and Rafael Anchía will not be seeking re-election.

The ten candidates who are seeking a seat are: District 4, Nancy Bingham, Jesse Diaz, Kenneth Green and Earnest Statuto; District 5, Lew Blackburn(incumbent); and District 7, Jerome Garza, Christopher Hay, Ramiro Lopez, Louis Trujillo and Bob Werner.

In order to qualify for a board seat, candidates must be 18 years of age or older on the first day of the term to be filled, a registered voter, a resident of the state for 12 months, and a resident of the trustee district for six months.

All of the Dallas board trustees are elected from single-member districts to serve rotating, three-year terms of office. Serving without compensation, the DISD board members are charged with hiring the superintendent, approving the annual budget, adopting policy and evaluating district performance.
